If you fancy another day out in the direction of Beroun, this little village is a great place to visit. It’s between Beroun and Křivoklát on the motor train and is directly on the picturesque Berounka River.
Nizbor is a tiny village situated about 7km northwest of Beroun, or 35km from Prague. Most interesting for visitors is the Baroque chateau, originally a Gothic castle, with an exposition about Celtic life and the famous Nižbor glassworks factory.
It is possible to walk around the firm’s glassworks during a 45-minute excursion, where you can see all stages of how the glass is made. Tours must be booked in advance. Tip: You can combine a visit to Nizbor with nearby Krivoklat castle; allow at least five hours for this day trip.
Rückl Crystal, Nižbor 141, tel. 311 69 61 11, www.ruckl.cz. Open 9:30 – 12:30. Closed Sat, Sun. Admission 100 CZK.
Eating in Nižbor. There are two options for eating in Nižbor – either head to the Keltovna restaurant near the glassworks or the more traditional Restaurace U Lípy opposite Keltovna over the bridge.
